San Diego, California - July 3, 2003. The San Diego County Medical Society Foundation has announced that it has selected ChartConnect as a partner for its "San Diego Medical Information Network Exchange" (SD MINE). ChartConnect is a web-based software developer that provides a comprehensive electronic medical record (EMR) for physician practices and hospitals nationwide. ChartConnect's EMR will be introduced to San Diego County physician groups through SD MINE, a web-based portal designed to help the San Diego County healthcare community use technology to improve patient care, improve office workflow, and decrease administrative expenses. The Medical Information Network Exchange will give San Diego County's 6,600 physicians secure access to pre-qualified online tools and resources, including ChartConnect's community-based electronic medical record. ChartConnect's EMR was chosen for its unique focus on building connected healthcare communities, allowing everyone involved in a patient's care to share and act on information at the point of patient care. Using web-based technology, ChartConnect quickly and easily creates automatic interfaces for hospital, lab and radiology data so that all the information a provider needs is in one place, in an easy-to-use format. Without faxing, chart pulls or phone calls, ChartConnect allows medical practices to send referrals and consulting reports to colleagues and share patient charts with on-call doctors or hospital ER providers. Dr. Stephen Carson, MD, the San Diego County Medical Society Foundation's Chief Medical Officer said that ChartConnect's community focus distinguished it from other electronic medical records. "When we heard of the enormous success of communities in Washington state with ChartConnect, we studied their unique community-based EMR. What we found was more than just a way to get patient charts into a computer – it was a means to really bring an entire community together." ChartConnect and Dr. Carson are already contacting physician groups to decide which groups will be the first to be implemented on this online EMR. Greg Jewell, CEO of ChartConnect said, "We are excited to be part of San Diego County's efforts to help physician practices realize the potential of online technology to improve patient care and streamline their offices."
